The front depicts King Hetoum II seated in Oriental fashion on a bench-like throne with two legs on each side, left hand raised holding a cross, right hand holding a mace; Armenian inscription reads “Hetoum King of the Armenians” / The back features a central Latin cross with Armenian inscription: “Struck in the City of Sis” around. Coin reference: Nercessian ACV 399–404 for type. Coin measures 20mm in diameter; encapsulated and graded Very Fine Details by NGC. Archival slab size: 3.125" x 2.125" x 0.375”. Very crisp text for this rare Crusader-era issue. Provenance: Ex De Père, WI collection. *** These Armenian copper coins circulated during the Crusades, when the Kingdom of Cilician Armenia acted as a key Christian ally in the region—bridging Eastern and Western cultures through trade, warfare, and diplomacy.
