The front features a large Crusader cross; inscription LVDOVCVS REX (“King Louis”) around / The back depicts a central castle with inscription TVRONVS CIVI (“City of Tours”) around. Coin reference: Duplessy 193 for type. Lightly toned with strong detail. Encapsulated and graded Very Fine by NGC. Coin measures 15mm in diameter; archival slab measures 3.125" x 2.125" x 0.375”. Provenance: Ex De Père, WI collection. **** Struck during the height of Templar influence, this coin reflects the legacy of Saint Louis—a devout Crusader king who supported the Knights Templar and their early banking system for pilgrims traveling to and from the Holy Land.
