This early American Model 1842 US Aston & Company .54 Caliber Percussion Pistol was manufactured in 1852. With brass trigger guard, grip tang, barrel band, hinged metal ram rod, checkered hammer, and stamped hammer plate marked "U.S./ H. Aston & Co./ Midd'tn/ Conn/ 1852" on right lock, "U.S./ WNP" inspector mark on left barrel near breech, "JAR" inspection mark on left brass lock strap, "EEH" inspection mark on left of the walnut stock. The pistol has a beautifully preserved 8.5” 0.54-Caliber smooth-bore iron barrel and “captive” ramrod which sits a bit loose. Excellent condition with good patina, hammer holds and half cock and full cock, with a tight snap, some original finish remaining. Total pistol length 14.25”.
