A nice pair of earrings comprised of Manteno spindle whorls from Ecuador, c. 800 - 1500 AD, depicting bird elements and other geometric designs. In black ceramic set off with white kaolin for incredible contrast. Bird wings, feathers, eyes, etc symbolized spirituality, enlightenment, and sublimation to the ancient Manteno culture. They are hung with nicely polished reddish-brown Bahia shell beads from Ecuador, c. 500 - 1500 AD. Fastened on modern .925 silver ear hooks and findings. H: 2 inches including hooks.
