The front of the coin depicts the helmeted head of Athena facing right, wearing crested Athenian helmet ornamented with three laurel leaves and vine scroll / The back shows the classical Owl standing right, head facing, closed tail feathers; olive sprig and crescent to left; Greek ΑΘΕ (“ATHENS”) to right, all all within incuse square border. Measures 24mm, weighs 17.19 grams; archival slab measures 3.125" x 2.125" x 0.375”. The NGC label indications “NGC AU 4/5 - 4/5”. Ex Heritage, Texas. *** These coins funded the building of the Acropolis and Parthenon in Athens, as well as funding the Peloponnesian War (431-404 BC) between Athens and Sparta.
